March 22 - Dr. Susan Madsen of Utah Valley University presents her research project Utah Women and Education (UWEP), 3:30-5 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center auditorium.
Description: UWEP, commissioned by the Utah System of Higher Education, is a research project spearheaded by Dr. Madsen to understand why women are falling behind in higher education in Utah. Nationally, women make up 57 percent of students enrolled in college, outnumbering male students by 14 percent. However, in Utah, 49 percent of students are women and the number of Utah women who graduate from college is 10 percent lower than the national average of 59 percent.

April 5 - Women's History Month Student Showcase - Merrill-Cazier Library 101, 4-7 p.m.
Description: The Center for Women and Gender will be celebrating Women’s History Month 2011 with the national theme “Our History is Our Strength” paying tribute to the millions of women who have taken action to help create a better world for the times in which they lived, as well as for future generations. We’d like to invite all USU students to participate in this significant celebration that will showcase student works by and/or about women. Categories of works shown include visual arts, social sciences, performing arts, and written works. Works will be judged by a panel from supporting groups of Women’s History Month at USU; winners will be announced April 1. There will be a cash award for the top submissions, one from each category. Come enjoy refreshments and the works of fellow students.
